CHITTENANGO -- Funeral arrangements have been announced for the 25-year-old Army sergeant from Chittenango who was killed in action in Afghanistan last week.

Sgt. Ed Bolen was with the 10th Mountain Division, which is headquartered out of Fort Drum. He was a star football player at Chittenango High School before joining the Army. He was married to his wife Andrea just a couple of months ago. The couple met during college.

Sgt. Bolen’s body will be greeted by an honor guard at Hancock Airport in Syracuse Thursday morning. The guard, made up of Bolen’s fellow soldiers from Afghanistan, will accompany him until his burial on Saturday. The procession will arrive in Chittenango from DeWitt via Route 5.

Calling hours for Bolen will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chittenango High School. The school will be closed that day to accommodate the hundreds of expected mourners.

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m., also at the high school on Genesee Street in Chittenango. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Chittenango.
