SENNETT, CAYUGA CO. -- A man is dead after a one car crash in Cayuga County Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident on Swamp Road in the Town of Sennett. Police say around 1:50 p.m. a 1999 Toyota Avalon driven by 59-year-old Mark A. Stevens of East Genesee Street in Auburn was headed south when it drove off the side of the road and struck a fence. The car then swerved across the road and crashed into a house on the other side.

Stevens was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
