OSWEGO (AP) -- U.S. Coast Guard officials say two guardsmen are recovering after they were injured aboard a rescue boat during heavy weather training on Lake Ontario.
Officials say two Coast Guard 47-foot motor life boats were about a half mile north of Oswego Harbor Wednesday afternoon when one of the vessels rolled more than 90 degrees, injuring five crew members.
When the boat returned to shore, three crewmen were evaluated and released and the other two were transported to hospitals.
Officials say one guardsman was treated at Oswego Hospital and released Wednesday evening, while the other was admitted to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse where he was being treated for a head injury. He has since been released.
Officials say weather conditions at the time of the injuries included 30 mile per hour wind gusts and 12- to 14-foot waves.
