Scientists from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission, or TRMM satellite team at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD recently compared rainfall between the two active hurricane seasons of 2010 and 2005. This past year brought the most storms since 2005. The 2005 season was a record breaking one for the total number of storms in the Atlantic Basin. The study didn’t tackle the issue of total volume of rainfall in the seasons, but came to the conclusion of how the precipitation was distributed geographically between the two.
Of course, the 2010 season was being watched closely by those cleaning up the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and it seems we may have had some luck there. You can read complete details on the study and results at NASA’s website here.
