LAKE PLACID (AP) -- Authorities have scaled back the search for a 22-year-old man who went missing in the High Peaks region of Adirondacks more than a week ago.

Wesley Wamsganz of Saranac Lake was last seen Nov. 20 on the Marcy Dam trail, where he'd gone after leaving his job as a dishwasher and prep cook at a nearby Lake Placid diner.

The search has concentrated on the rugged area south of Lake Placid where his jacket was found a day after he disappeared.

But after eight days of intense searching by dozens of forest rangers, police officers and volunteers, state officials told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise on Sunday they'll resume only when resources are available or there are new leads.

Temperatures have dropped as low as single digits in the area.
