AUBURN (AP) -- The annual crow-hazing battle is heating up in Auburn.
As they have for years, thousands of crows are descending on the central New York city every night raising a ruckus and making a mess. Crews from the public works department will be out over the next week trying to deal with the birds.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture first initiated the hazing program in 2005, when the department estimated a crow population of about 80,000 in Auburn.
Crews use lasers, cap guns, fireworks and crow distress calls to scare off the birds in the places they tend to congregate.
