ALBANY -- Monday’s legislative session was short on results so the State Senate is coming back to town.
Democratic Conference Chair John Sampson called on his fellow Senators to return to the State Capitol on Tuesday.
There are two items on the agenda – the allocation of federal education aid, and the passage of a bail out plan for New York City Off Track Betting. The big news to come out LAST week’s get-together was the Assembly’s passage of the hydrofracking moratorium. The bill is now heading to Governor Paterson’s desk. He has less than 5 days to either veto or sign the bill into law.
One day after the session, Governor Elect Cuomo met privately with the Assembly Democratic Conference at a downtown Albany hotel. Emerging to speak with the press he chastised the legislature for not being willing to even address the current year budget gap, which will only add to the pain of the next session…
Some political analysts are recommending that Cuomo use his first few weeks in office to address the budget gap – because that’s when he will have the most political good will among legislators.
