ITHACA (AP) -- New York state and the city of Ithaca rank high in the Peace Corps' annual breakdown of top volunteer-producing states and metro regions.
Ithaca ranks 9th on the Top Ten Metro Regions Per Capita and New York is ranked 2nd on the Top Ten States list. Also, the New York City Metro Region outranks the D.C. region.
The Peace Corps is announcing the rankings today in Washington. The corps says more Americans are serving as Peace Corps volunteers today than at any other time in the last 40 years.
California produced the largest number of Peace Corps volunteers in 2010, followed by New York and Illinois. Vermont produced the greatest number per capita.
