MANLIUS -- The massive snow we just dealt with is a clear indication that the Holidays are fast approaching.
And for tree farms -- this is a huge weekend.
Page's Christmas Tree Farm just outside the center of Manlius is gearing up for, what it hopes, is an onslaught of customers. There are plenty of trees to choose from -- eight thousand, in fact, spread out over 25 acres. You can chop one down yourself or pick one up that's already pre cut.
But could more snow in the forecast stunt sales? The folk's at Page's hope not -- but realize tons of snow do not make for ideal tree-picking conditions.
"Well we are five miles away from Manlius, six miles away from Cazenovia...so with four feet of snow, it deters people from coming out here," said James Page, 24. He's been working on the farm for 14 years now and says sales this year are about the same as last year. He said weather is a cause for some concern each year, especially sleet -- which can damage trees.
He did note, with a smile, no matter what Mother Nature decides to do, the farm will be open Sunday -- adding the snow hopefully will put people in the holiday spirit.
