SYRACUSE -- The annual Central New York Bike Giveaway is looking for donations for bike repairs.
Organizer Jan Maloff hopes to give away 2,500 bicycles this weekend, but right now about many of those bikes are still in need of repairs. Maloff says they still need around $1,500 to cover the costs of the repairs.
"A lot of these bikes need tubes and tires. It is costing us about fifteen dollars a bike, and right now we just don't have the funds to fix these bikes up in time for this weekend," Maloff says.
Maloff says about 50 percent of the more than 3,000 bikes which were donated are in need of repair. Without the needed funds, Maloff fears some families coming to pick up a free bike for their children this weekend will be turned away.
This year's bike giveaway will take place on Saturday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Fowler High School. Anyone who needs a bike is invited to pick one up there.
