ALBANY -- Plans are in the works to welcome the new governor to office. Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor-elect Robert Duffy will host the inauguration December 31st and January 1st.
The inaugural events, announced Thursday by Cuomo's office, include a private swearing-in at the Executive Mansion on New Year's Eve, a working executive staff meeting early on New Year's Day, followed by a small inauguration ceremony in the Governor's Reception Room in the state Capitol and a public receiving line at the Executive Mansion.
"This is not a time for the grand and expensive celebrations of the recent past, it is the time to return dignity, integrity, and performance to state government and begin making real progress for the people of this great state," Cuomo said. "That means we go to work on the very first day with a focus on renewing New Yorkers' faith in government."
Cuomo and Duffy will be sworn-in at a small ceremony January 1st in the Governor's Reception Room (also known as the War Room) in the State Capitol attended by their families, staff and members of the press. Comptroller-elect Thomas DiNapoli and Attorney General-elect Eric Schneiderman will also be sworn in at the ceremony.
Part of Cuomo's inaugural speech will talk about ushering in a new era of openness in government.
After the inaugural ceremony January 1st, the Governor will host an open house from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Executive Mansion where New Yorkers will have a chance to meet the Governor and Lt. Governor.
