OCRRA has a list--check it twice!

Most people know to compost  Christmas trees.  Here in Onondaga County, OCRRA will even give you the resulting mulch for your effort.  But there's more to recycle over the holidays.

The amount of trash we throw away goes up 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year's, according to Sarah Stewart, a recycling specialist with OCRRA.  That's 25 million TONS of trash.  So here are some things to add to your recycling Blue Bin:
--Catalogs and advertising flyers
--Wrapping paper (non-metallic only)
--Greeting cards (non-metallic only)
--Corrugated cardboard boxes (flatten and cut to 3' x 3' pieces)
--Gift boxes

Styrofoam packing is not recyclable, but 'peanuts' are--UPS will take them back for re-use.
Ribbons and bowa are not recyclable, but most can be re-used, a form of recycling in itself.

The tree?  Composting sites will open after New Year's, and OCRRA will have the sites and hours.  We'll remind you here.
