AUBURN -- A man with a history of illegally entering schools was arrested Wednesday after police say he exposed himself to students at Auburn High School last month.
According to Auburn Police, on November 4 a man entered Auburn High School around 3:00 p.m. and exposed himself to a student who was staying after school. Police say the student reported the incident to district officials, who searched the building but were unable to find the suspect.
On Wednesday, police announced the arrest of Paul W. Goodrell on charges of felony burglary, misdemeanor public lewdness, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. Police say school surveillance video showed Goodrell entering school property, walking around the building, and entering the school. Police also say their investigation revealed that Goodrell is suspected of exposing himself to several students walking home from the high school on Lake Avenue, as well as similar incidents that occurred on the same day at Cayuga Community College in Auburn and Driver Middle School in Marcellus.
Goodrell was arraigned in Auburn City Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail, where deputies say he is being held on similar charges. Police say Goodrell has a criminal history dating back to 1988 and was released from Bare Hill Correctional Facility in Malone, New York December 2009 after serving time for breaking into a school in Newark, New York in 2006.
Police say their investigation is continuing, but no additional charges are expected.
