SYRACUSE -- An Oneida County man faces life in prison after admitting in court that he produced child pornography.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 57-year-old Flay Rood of Utica was in federal district court Wednesday and pleaded to charges of three counts of producing child porn images. Officials say Rood produced sexual images of three boys, ages three to seven, between January 2005 and March 2008. Rood also pleaded guilty to distributing, attempting to distribute, receiving, and possessing child pornography over the internet.

Rood is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20 in U.S. District Court in Utica. Officials say Rood could face up to life imprisonment, in addition to mandatory minimum sentences of 25 years each for the production charges, 15 years each for the distribution and receipt charges, and 10 years for the possession charge.

In addition, Rood faces a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, and will have to register as a sex offender.
