TOWN OF PARIS -- Wind and snow covered roads are partially to blame for a crash that killed two parents with their young daughters in the back seat.
Oneida County Sheriff's deputies say Richard and Kristin Holmes of Pennsylvania were both killed in a crash on Route 12 in Paris Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say Richard Holmes was driving with his wife, two daughters, and the family dog. They were headed north on Route 12 when he crossed into the opposite lane, just south of the Shanley Road intersection.
Holmes collided with another car, driven by 65-year-old John Colabelli of Earlville. Richard and Kristin Holmes were killed. Colabelli was taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for his injuries. The 12 and 15 year old Holmes daughters were treated for exposure to cold temperatures. An animal care and adoption agency, Spring Farm Cares, took the family dog to get veterinary care.
Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
Investigators say Holmes' unsafe speed and snow blowing across the road both contributed to the crash.
