BRONX, NY -- The Syracuse University football team will meet Kansas State with the George Steinbrenner trophy on the line Thursday in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl.
Wednesday, The Orange held a walkthrough of Yankee Stadium in frigid temperatures, to get a feel for tomorrow's atmosphere as Stadium field crews continued to clear snow from the grass and stands. Fans may want to bring their snow pants, because from my view it will be nearly miraculous for all snow to be removed from seats by game time.
Orange head coach Doug Marrone and the team posed for pictures on the field, and met with youth from the Bronx afterward. Marrone gave a heartfelt speech to the kids, telling them how he was just like them when he was a kid - born and raised in the Bronx - and made a successful career for himself as both a player and coach.
We'll have an update from Marrone's press conference (his final media availability before the game) later today.
In another note, Orange wide receiver Dorian Graham has shaved the #47 into his latest haircut in honor of senior co-captain Rob Long, who underwent brain surgery two weeks ago. Long has accompanied the team to New York City this week, and tweeted Thursday that he was issued the locker used by Yankees all-star third baseman Alex Rodriguez each summer.
The Pinstripe Bowl kicks off Thursday at 3:30 p.m. It can be seen locally on ESPN.
