Novelis Oswego Works wins Industrial Safety Award
OSWEGO -- Getting everyone home the same way they came is the goal at Novelis, where aluminum is recycled into ingots for re-use.
It's a dangerous job, with open flames and lots of heavy equipment, but the plant has its in-house fire department and emergency medical squad as a safety net.
They've had 41 calls for the EMTs and 134 fire calls this year so far, and industrial firefighting is not the same as answering housefires.
Besides regular plant jobs, the volunteers spend lots of time training for emergencies, and also answer calls and volunteer for community activities outside the plant.
Novelis Oswego Works wins this year's Industrial Safety Award.
