SYRACUSE -- The Red Cross is now helping two residents of a home on Fernwood Avenue, on Syracuse's south side, after an early morning fire.

A neighbor called in the alarm about 4:45 a.m Sunday. The fire in the two and a half story home was in an upstairs apartment. It took firefighters an hour to get it under control.

The smoke blanketed several neighborhoods in the Midland Avenue area, and some homeowners reported smoke detectors going off.

There were no injuries, and the fire cause is under investigation.
