SENECA CO. -- The next time you pick up your phone, you should be careful what information you give out. Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg is warning people about a new phone scam.
Here's what authorities say happened recently: A woman got a phone call, telling her she had won a large sum of money and an expensive model car. The caller told the woman to go to Western Union to get a receipt for a money gram for $300. The caller makes it sound like no money was to be sent at that time and she should just get a receipt. She was then told she would will be met by representatives at her home in a few hours to give her the money and the car and that she should give them the receipt at that time. The caller even went as far as to set up a series of passwords to make sure she was giving the receipt to the right person.
Remember never to give personal information over the phone. Call police if you feel you've been the victim of a scam.
