With the start of a new year comes new leadership in top positions across the state. Cortland's former mayor will play a key role in the office of the state Attorney General.
On Monday, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced a round of appointments to several key staff positions. Martin Mack will serve as Executive Deputy Attorney General for Regional Affairs. Mack received his undergraduate degree from Cornell and Masters in Teaching from SUNY Cortland. He also received a Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina.
Mack served as Deputy Secretary for Appointments to Governor Paterson from July 2009 to December 2010. He served as Deputy Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs to Governor Paterson from February 2009 to June 2009 and also served as Deputy Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs to Governor Spitzer from January 2007 to April 2008. Prior to joining the Governor's Office, he served for eight years as Deputy Attorney General to Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Mack served as as an Assistant District Attorney in Cortland County from 1980 to 1983, Cortland County Attorney from 1984 to 1987, and Mayor of the City of Cortland from 1988 to 1992. He was also a partner in a private law practice for more than 18 years.
Schneiderman announced the following other appointments:
Christina Harvey will serve as Director of Operations.
Neal Kwatra will serve as Chief of Staff.
Shanti Nayak will serve as Chief Operating Officer.
Kent Stauffer will serve as State Counsel.
Blake Zeff will serve as the Senior Advisor to the Attorney General.
Fernando Aquino will serve as Press Secretary (Spanish language).
James Freedland will serve as Deputy Director of Communications.
Jennifer Givner will serve as Press Secretary (Upstate).
Danny Kanner will serve as Press Secretary (Downstate).
