An Auburn man will spend 1 to 3 years in prison for his role in a fire at the old Marsellus Casket Company building.
Anthony Cheney was sentenced in Onondaga County Court for his part in the January 2009 arson at the former factory. He was also facing charges in connection with the 2010 fire that left the former factory engulfed in flames. As a result, the building was later torn down. As part of a plea deal, those charges were dismissed.
Previously, another man, Jared Smith, 27, pleaded guilty to arson in connection with the 2009 fire. He was not charged in the 2010 arson.
Charges are still pending against two other suspects in the 2009 fire, Amanda Martin, 18, of Auburn and Tyler Emm, 16, of Syracuse. Emm is also accused of setting the 2010 fire that destroyed the 100-year-old building. He pleaded not guilty to arson charges in November.
