AFGHANISTAN -- A surprise visit by Vice President Joe Biden meant an unusual opportunity for a Fort Drum solider.
U.S. Army Spc. Trellis Littlejohn, a 10th Mountain Division soldier, had the rare chance to shake hands with the Vice President during his surprise stop in Afghanistan today at Bagram Airfield. Littlejohn is a communications specialist with Task Force Falcon of the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade. Littlejohn is a native of Gaffney, South Carolina. He was one of hundreds of service members who the Vice President took time to thank for their service.
Biden's meet and greet with soldiers came after meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul. Biden praised advances made against the insurgency while noting that the gains were "fragile and reversible."
Today, Biden will spend the day in Pakistan meeting with the country's president and other officials as part of the U.S. effort to get Islamabad to intensify the fight against Islamist militants along the Afghan border.
