This story may be a hard one to swallow give the recent and coming cold and snowy conditions here in Central New York.

You should remember the 72.8” record breaking monthly snow total set this past December. Researchers at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York released analysis this week which shows 2010 tied for the warmest year ever globally.

Last year was a statistical tie with 2005. The average temperature on Earth was approximately 1.34°F warmer than the average surface temperature from the period of 1951 to 1980.

According to James Hansen, the director of GISS, "Global temperature is rising as fast in the past decade as in the prior two decades, despite year-to-year fluctuations associated with the El Nino-La Nina cycle of tropical ocean temperature".

You can read more about the study’s findings on the NASA website here.
