SYRACUSE -- A New York City man is under arrest after police say he robbed a local credit union last month.
On the afternoon of December 11, Syracuse Police were called to the ACMG Federal Credit Union on the corner of South Salina Street and Seneca Turnpike for a report of a bank robbery. When officers arrived, they say a search of the area led to the discovery of a dead man’s body down the street on the ground of St. James Catholic Church. The deceased man was later identified as 55-year-old Charles Williams of Syracuse, who police say died from hypothermia.
Police say as a result of their investigation into the robbery, they have arrested 60-year-old Charles Hudson of the Bronx. Police say he turned himself in to police in New York City and admitted to robbing the credit union. He says he heard about police finding Williams’ body on the news and didn’t want to be blamed for it.
Police say Hudson has been convicted of bank robbery in the past. He reportedly couldn’t find work in Syracuse, so he decided to steal from the credit union in order to get money to return to New York. He has admitted to walking into the credit union carrying a weapon.
Police say Hudson was arraigned Wednesday and is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center. The robbery and Williams’ death are said to not be related.
