LIVERPOOL -- If you drove through Lights on the Lake, you were one of many who made for a record-setting year. There were 38,554 vehicle that drove through the two-mile lights extravaganza, passing the previous record of 36,922 set back in 2002. Officials say the event attracted more than 192,000 people to Onondaga Lake Park.

"It was another terrific year for Lights on the Lake and we are grateful to all of our partners who helped in this success," said Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney.

The annual attraction started with Lights on the Lake Stroll and Dog Walk, which more than 11,500 attended, raising $11,129 for the Rescue Mission and Humane Association of CNY.

More than 7,000 people attended the First Night CNY New Year's Eve event. The evening included live music, walk-thru lights, orange ball drop and fireworks.

"Record attendance at Wegmans Lights on the Lake and First Night CNY are a result of the excellent work of our partners and the dedication of the entire Parks Department staff," remarked Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley.

Mark your calendars because First Night will return for New Years Eve 2011. The Lights on the Lake Stroll will be held November 21 with the Lake Dog Walk on November 22. The drive-thru will run November 23-January 8.
