ORISKANY, ONEIDA COUNTY -- An inmate at the Oneida County Correctional Facility is now facing extra charges. Sheriff's deputies say he assaulted a correction officer.

The incident happened on December 27th. Deputies say 31-year-old Michael Nero, of Rome, wouldn't go back to his housing area after a phone call. When the officer tried to restrain him, Nero punched the officer in the face. The officer fell and hit his head on the cell block bars. He was treated for head injuries and is still out of work. Deputies are not releasing the officer's name.

Nero has been charged with assault in the second degree. He was arraigned in Oriskany Village Court and sent back to the Correctional Facility without bail.
