ALBANY (AP) -- Five counties in the Finger Lakes region have been designated a natural disaster area because of frost, excessive heat and excessive rain between April and December 2010.
The designation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows farmers in the area to seek disaster assistance to cover part of their crop losses.
The counties included are Yates, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca and Steuben.
Farmers interested in seeking aid should contact their local USDA Service Centers for further information on eligibility requirements and applications.
