ALBANY -- It’s less than a month into session, but there are at least 12 bills that have been introduced in both houses of the legislature that gun rights activists are lobbying against.
Most of the bills will restrict access to either guns or ammunition, change the definition of automatic weapons or provide for microstamping bullets.
But the sea of men in camouflage who turned out at the Capitol for the annual Sportsman's Day, are confident that the new Republican majority in the State Senate will prevent any new gun restrictions from taking effect.
While divisions between the pro-gun lobby and gun control advocates are standard fare there is another division coming to light – a growing rift developing between conservation groups concerned about cuts at the Department of Environmental Conservation and advocates more focused on gun rights who ally themselves with the NRA.
