ALBANY (AP) -- A lawyer who was convicted of having sex with a client in exchange for his professional services has been suspended from practicing law for one year.
Matthew Swedick, a former Albany County assistant public defender, was sentenced to a year in the county jail in December 2009 for official misconduct. He remains free on bail while appealing the misdemeanor conviction.
The Appellate Division of state Supreme Court suspended him on Thursday after finding him guilty of professional misconduct.
Swedick's attorney, James Long, said his client was disappointed by the disciplinary ruling.
