SYRACUSE -- If you've been heading to the pump the past few weeks, you've probably noticed gas prices have been creeping up.
A new Lundberg Survey shows gasoline is slightly more expensive than two weeks ago. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.13.
The survey says that is about 46 cents more than a year ago.
According to SyracuseGasPrices.com, the average price in the Syracuse area is $3.29.
Art Hayes, owner of the Carrier Circle Mobil station, says oil prices dropped slightly at the end of last week, but today they are going up again. He says, as a business owner, he has little control over the prices. Hayes says he has a contract with one company and receives a fax each day telling him how expensive his gas will be.
We checked in with David Popp, an economist and associate professor at Syracuse University's Maxwell School. He says there are short term and long term factors causing gas prices to go up. Short term, he says the situation in Egypt could affect the supply of oil. Long term, he says demand has been slowly increasing. Demand has now surpassed 2007 levels for the first time.
