We usually see those SYRACUSE -- Salvation Army red kettles and bell ringers outside stores. But tonight you will see the familiar sight at the Carrier Dome for the Syracuse-Georgetown game. Volunteers from Cxtec and TERACAI will man the kettles in order to help the Salvation Army make up for a drop in donations during the holiday season.
The Salvation Army reports that donations were down 25 percent from the previous year. It says the still sluggish economy and above average snowfall are to blame for the shortfall.
The Salvation Army reports it provided services last year to some 40,000 residents in Onondaga County.
