CANTON (AP) -- CSX Transportation crews are on the scene of a freight train derailment in northern New York where several box cars left the track while traveling through a village.
Canton Police Chief Alan Mulkin says the 75-car train was passing through the St. Lawrence County village around 6 p.m. Tuesday when one of the box cars lost an axle, causing seven cars to derail.
Mulkin says the train was hauling wood, paper and rubber products. None of the cargo spilled.
Mulkin says CSX crews were working Wednesday morning to get the derailed cars back on the tracks. CSX officials tell the Watertown Daily Times that it could take another day to clear and repair the tracks.
The train was headed to the Albany area when it derailed.
No one was injured.
