SYRACUSE -- When you're driving on these wintry roads, you now also have to keep in mind a new state law.

The Move Over Law has been in effect across New York since January 1st and some drivers are not catching on.

The law requires drivers traveling on the highway to move over and out of the lane directly adjacent to a parked emergency vehicle.

According to state police, since the law went into effect last month, 470 tickets have been issued statewide. Troop D, which covers Central New York, has issued 32 tickets.

The law is named in part for Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy Glenn Searles, who died when his patrol car was hit while he was on the side of road helping a driver.
