Rebates being offered for 'old' smart phones
DEWITT -- Verizon is selling the new iPhone 4 on the Internet on Wednesday, and its ten Central New York stores are set to open early, at 7:00 am, on Thursday for direct sales.
Angela Shults, Verizon Wireless' Erie Boulevard store manager, says they expect lines when they open, and will have extra staffers on hand to handle expected demand. They'll be selling first come, first served, and if they run out, the phones can be shipped directly to customers' homes.
AT&T already sells a similar iPhone 4 model, and AT&T Wireless area Retail Sales Manager Ricardo Jimenez says there are differences. He says his company's system is 35% faster and that you can talk and text at the same time with them.
The Verizon version will look slightly different - and both companies say it's the backup that counts. Not surprisingly, each says it offers better: Verizon says it has the biggest and fastest, AT&T says data speeds are 35% faster and its system can be accessed worldwide.
If you plan to buy, and already have a smart phone, there are also deals: Verizon says it has some buybacks, including a 'bonus' if you turn in an AT&T phone. eBay is also offering buybacks for about $200, Verizon's sale price, for iPhone3GS, Droid x, EVO4G or Galaxy S Vibrant models.
