SYRACUSE (AP) -- A 22-year-old Syracuse man admits killing a friend in a drunken-driving crash last summer.
Robert Barboni pleaded guilty Wednesday in Onondaga County Court to a single felony count of second-degree vehicular manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Jerald Settineri.
Barboni could have faced up to seven years in state prison but the judge promised him one year in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility in Jamesville. The victim's parents sent the judge a letter saying they didn't want Barboni jailed for their son's death.
Authorities initially were unsure who was driving the car when it crashed.
Sentencing for Barboni is set for April 13.
