SYRACUSE -- Onondaga County reports 65 confirmed cases of influenza for the most recent week for which it has statistics.

As of last Saturday, February 5th, the county saw an increase of 25 cases from the week prior.  For the last week in January, the health department says it recorded 40 cases of the flu.

Health Commissioner Dr. Cynthia Morrow says cases of death from the flu are only reported if they involve a child. Therefore, the health department has no information on how many adult deaths have been the result of influenza so far this year.

Morrow says February is generally when flu cases peak in Central New York.
