Your morning caffeine jolt may not have been necessary this morning to perk you up. Just stepping outside was enough as the arctic cold may have done the trick. Although the deep, bitter arctic air has relaxed now, temperatures and wind chills were a concern for a while this morning. In fact, some spots had wind chill advisories that early this morning.

Many areas of central and southern New York had clear skies and light winds. This plus the recent snowpack and the arctic intrusion of air allowed the temperatures to enter the "free-fall" zone and drop to well below zero. East-northeast of Lake Ontario, lake effect cloud coverage, snow showers and more wind kept reading above zero. Look through the list of the lowest temperatures that occurred early Friday morning. There were many areas that reached doube-digit below zero.
