SYRACUSE -- The news of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepping down could be felt around the world, and was cause for celebration for a group of Egyptians living in Central New York.
"There are no words to describe my feelings now...very happy especially after all the suspense," said Sam Salem.
"I feel very happy, mission accomplished," Shafey Sayed.
"We feel so proud," said May Elleisi. "They were really courageous, and they proved to themselves that they can do it and they actually did it."
The end of Mubarak's reign over Egypt comes after more than two weeks of protests. Those protests hit close to home for many who have family right in the middle of all the chaos.
"We were very, very worried," said Salem. "Very stressful...we were calling everyday."
Now, Egypt is in the hands of its military as the country prepares for the long, but much anticipated transition into a democracy. Salem said he's confident his country will get there.
"People now know how to get the freedom, they know that it's all in their hands...they can go again to Tehrir Square," Salem said.
The future is finally in the hands of the Egyptian people. Although, the people I spoke with today realize there's still a long road ahead.
