(AP) -- State police say a 22-year-old man died when his snowmobile struck a tree beside a trail in Herkimer County.

Daniel Latt of Mohawk was riding alone Saturday night around 9:30 when he veered off the trail and struck a tree in the town of Columbia, 15 miles southeast of Utica. He was ejected from the sled.

Other passing snowmobilers found Latt. State police said Sunday that the investigation is ongoing.
