AUBURN --

The Liverpool woman stabbed over the weekend remains in critical, but stable condition. Auburn police identified her in a news release sent to CNY Central.

The victim is identified as Felicia Bowman, 41.

The man accused of stabbing her, Christopher Tessitore, 28, is facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the case.

The trouble started around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at 27 Steel Street. When police arrived on the scene, they found a woman sitting on top of a man in the middle of the street.

Police say the woman was holding down Tessitore until police got there. Bowman was later found in a car bleeding profusely with a large wound to her neck. She was rushed to Upstate Medical Center for emergency surgery.

Tessitore was taken to Auburn Memorial Hospital to be treated for self-inflicted wounds to his neck.

Police say Bowman and her friend went to a local benefit at the Steel Street location. When they got there, the homeowner's daughter and her boyfriend, Christopher Tessitore. Police say Tessitore and Bowman got into a verbal argument. Later on, police say, his girlfriend walked into the room and saw the victim bleeding and Tessitore with a knife in his hand.

Police say Tessitore took off on foot, but the homeowner went after him and held him down until police arrived on the scene. Tessitore was treated for superficial wounds to his neck and released from Auburn Memorial Hospital. He's now charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned and sent to the Cayuga County Jail without bail.

Auburn police are looking for witnesses to a series of events early this morning that ended with a Liverpool woman stabbed in the neck, and a Suffolk County man - who also apparently stabbed himself - charged with attempted murder.

Detectives say it happened about 1:30 a.m. The woman who was stabbed - identified only as a 41-year-old Liverpool resident - and the owner of 27 Steel Street went to that home, where the boyfriend of the owner's daughter - now the suspect - got into a fight.  Police say he attempted to stab himself in the neck after she was critically injured.

When police arrived, the home owner was sitting on top of the suspect in the middle of the street, holding him down. After he was arrested she led them to a nearby car where the Liverpool woman, bleeding heavily, was sitting.  She is now at University Hospital.

The suspect, 28-year-old Christopher Tessitore from Islip Terrace, is charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Auburn Police ask anyone with more information to call them at 253-3231.
