Most Central New Yorkers awoke to a light covering of snowfall Monday morning. No major issues are reported on the roads, as most are just wet.  However, be careful walking, especially on sidewalks and parking lots that may not have been salted. It is slippery out there.

If you are traveling by air, be aware you could run into some delays as you head west.  Wintry weather isn't taking the holiday off in the upper Midwest. Several states advised motorists to stay off highways as a storm blew through yesterday. Blowing snow will present a challenge to those who have to move about today.

Air travel is also being affected. Even before the worst of the storm hit, Delta canceled about 700 flights to and from the Twin Cities airport.

In Detroit, about 230 flights were canceled. About as many flights were also scrubbed at Chicago O'Hare airport.

Forecasters say the big storm will bring a wintry mix across the upper Midwest for several days. The National Weather Service predicts Minneapolis could see 10 to 15 inches of snow through the afternoon.

Check with your airline before you head to the airport.

Here's meteorologist Peter Hall's forecast:

Early morning light snow will end as flurries by middle morning. Additional accumulation will generally be minor with trace-1". Slightly more, Trace-2" to the southeast of Onondaga County in the morning. There will be nothing in the north country. Skies will partially clear through the day. It will be rather chilly. Wind: NNE 5-20mph.

Tonight - Mostly Cloudy, Low 6°

Partly to variably cloudy and cold. Light scattered lake effect flurries to the southwest of Onondaga County into the Finger Lakes, with a trace-1" in spots there only.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
