SYRACUSE -- Firefighters were on the scene of a structure fire on the west side of Syracuse late Wednesday morning.
The emergency call came into Onondaga County 911 for a fire at 610 Gifford Street around 11:45 a.m. The fire was located in a two story wood frame house, which fire officials say is vacant. Windows on the lower floors of the building are boarded up, but the fire appears to have gutted the upper floor.
Officials say the fire was knocked down by fire crews within a few minutes of arrival.
The fire chief on the scene says the vacant building did not have any electric or gas service, so they suspect "human involvement" in the cause of the fire.
Firefighters encountered a frozen hydrant near the building, and had to utilize water from truck tanks for their initial firefighting efforts.
No word of any injuries as a result of the fire. Gifford Street was temporarily closed in the vicinity while crews fought the flames.
