More people are working again in 11 of the 17 largest counties in New York. That is according to new numbers for June 2009 to June 2010 just released to CNY Central by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

All of New York's 17 large counties reported wage gains, but only four exceeded the national increase. Onondaga County was on that list. The other three include New York County (Manhattan), Suffolk and Westchester County.

Oneida County recorded the lowest average weekly wages at $695.

Among New York smaller counties, Hamilton County in the Adirondacks reported one of the lowest average weekly wages at $576.

Kings County, commonly referred to as Brooklyn, saw the largest increase in employment, followed by Bronx County and Richmond County (Staten Island).

Nationally, employment actually declined 0.2 percent over the year.

In terms of overall employment across the state, Manhattan saw the highest employment rate, followed by Suffolk and Nassau Counties.
