With high gas prices, expecting more local visitors
When it was first published in 1951, the Finger Lakes Travel Guide was 40 black and white pages and a 3 color map of the region.
This year's travel guide is full color and 96 pages, and there's a digital flip-book version, too.
Susan Dove, with the Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce and on the board of the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance, says the guide covers 9,000 square miles and covers the obvious wine trails, but also shopping, spas, farm trails and fishing. And, there's an events calendar listing festivals and special happenings.
The Finger Lakes attract tourists from all over the world, and this year, with gas prices up again, Dove expects more Central New Yorkers will choose to vacation 'in our back yards' and discover the close-in possibilities for short or long-term getaways and entertainment.
