WEBSTER (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy was rescued from the frigid water of Lake Ontario in suburban Rochester after he fell through the ice.
Webster Fire Chief Craig Akins tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that about 50 emergency workers rushed to the scene after the teen's friend called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. Monday. The boy had been hanging out with a few friends at Webster Park when he fell through the ice.
Akins says the boy was semi-conscious and suffering from hypothermia when he was rescued. He had been submerged up to his neck for about 10 minutes.
The teen was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
