SCIPIO, CAYUGA CO. -- The son of a retired Cayuga County Sheriff's deputy gunned down in his own home is now charged with his father's murder.
Michael Gallow, 28, is charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in his father's death. Investigators tell CNY Central the body of Bernard Gallow was found in his garage Saturday night. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. Authorities say a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle was used in the crime.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's office said in a news conference Monday afternoon that the shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday and the younger Gallow was apprehended at the scene. He was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge early Sunday, but authorities withheld his name until Monday. A court official says there's no listing yet for a defense lawyer.
Gallow retired two years ago after working more than 20 years as a road patrol deputy.
Police are not offering a motive for the killing. Michael Gallow is currently in police custody, being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Brutus Court for a preliminary hearing on Friday.

Sunday morning update:
Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould says the Scipio man killed Saturday night was a retired Cayuga County sheriff's deputy.
Gould says they found 58 year-old Bernard Gallow dead in his home around 11:15 P.M.
Investigators say they have charged a suspect with second degree murder and they have reason to believe Gallow knew the suspect. They say they cannot release the identity of the suspect until Monday.
Gallow worked as a sheriff's deputy with the Cayuga County Sheriff's Department for over 20 years and was currently working part-time with the Cayuga County courthouse and the Moravia Police Department.
Sheriff Gould says this has been a difficult investigation because every deputy at the scene Saturday night knew Gallow.
The sheriff's department will hold a news conference Monday at noon to release more details of the investigation.
