Syracuse's Common Council has okayed new fees for Sidewalk Cafe' Permits.
Restaurants will pay from $50 to $300, depending on how much square footage they use outside.

Councilor Lance Denno (D-Councilor at Large) says it's a small fee and will allow the policing of the outside areas, to make sure sidewalk access for pedestrians.

Councilor Ryan McMahon (R-3rd District Councilor) was one of two councilors voting against the new surcharge.  He calls it an extra tax, and another stress for business owners.  McMahon was also concerned that no restaurant owners were present when the vote came up--he was not sure they were aware it was coming.
