MANLIUS -- Update (4:00 pm):
Helen Kiggins from the Onondaga County Board of Elections confirms to CNY Central that Harold Hopkinson has won the election for Manlius village trustee by 1 vote over Marc Baum. Kiggins says there is some controversy involved with the election, however.
This morning, all the voting machines were recanvassed, and elections officials opened and counted 8 absentee ballots. Kiggins says around 10 am, she was informed one of the absentee ballots was submitted by a person who passed away in February -- thus making that vote ineligible. Because those ballots are scrambled before counting -- Kiggins says it's impossible to determine which candidate won that ballot. In other words -- there is no way to remove that vote from the total.
Kiggins said Marc Baum is now suing the Board of Elections.
Chris McGrath will have much more on this story tonight on NBC 3 and CBS 5.
