Update, 6:15pm:

The longtime lacrosse coach at Jordan-Elbridge was told to pack up his belongings and turn in his keys today.

We were the first to report that Rick Young's re-appointment to the post was rejected by the Jordan-Elbridge school board.

Young tell us tonight he met with Interim Superintendent Larry Zacher today. Zacher told Young he supported his appointment as coach, but it was the board's decision to reject him.

Some supporters of the coach are calling this vote by the school board another embarrassment for the school district.

It is not known who will coach the lacrosse team. It's first scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday.

Original story:

The Jordan-Elbridge School Board voted tonight to reject the appointment of longtime lacrosse coach Rick Young.  In a narrow vote Young and one of his assistants Mike Smart were rejected by the board.  They had been given approval by the superintendent to begin practicing with the team pending board approval.  Practices had started, but the team's first game is not until April 1st.

Rick Young told us earlier this month this brewing controversy started with the complaint of one upset parent about a coaching appointment he made.  Some people who live in the district are complaining tonight saying this vote is another embarassment for a district that has been mired in controversy and lawsuits over several terminations of key district leaders.
