March is Poison Prevention Month, and  this year Upstate New York's Poison Center, which covers 54 counties in New York,
is asking you to program your cell phone to provide quick access to potentially life-saving information.

1 - 800 - 222-1222 is the hotline number.  Lee Livermore, who's the Public Education Coordinator at the center, says it's staffed 24x7, and most of the calls they get are for information that solves the  problem without need for more emergency medical care.

Half the calls to poison centers  nationwide are about children under 6---usually that they're putting something in their mouths that may or may not be toxic.    However, drug related poisoning deaths are second only to car crashes in the leading causes of injury death.

Again, the Upstate Poison Center Hotline is 1-800-222-1222 (put it in your cell phone!).   And, take a look at their website for a lot of good information on poison and overdose control (including on Bath Salts, a drug that targets kids)
